The Hydrogeological Engineering Education Program was established in 1977 as a result of the view that "water will be as important a natural resource as oil in the future, and groundwater will hold a greater significance among all water resources." This educational program was launched for the first time in Türkiye at Hacettepe University. Since its establishment over 30 years ago, with 874 graduates, its current research and educational infrastructure, it has taken its place among the distinguished academic institutions of the world in its field.
