In addition to population growth, the increasing pressure of climate change is felt most strongly on water resources. In particular, the geographical region that includes Turkey is among the countries that will be most affected by this pressure on water resources. We are losing more and more of our water every day due to meteorological drought and human-induced quality degradation. Securing the future in terms of water is of vital importance. Managing the water resources that will determine Turkey's future in a way that ensures our "water security" depends on the training of competent "Hydrogeological Engineers". The main mission of Hacettepe University's Hydrogeological Engineering Program is to train young engineers who will "play a role in shaping the present and the future".
A Hydrogeological Engineer graduates are equipped to define the formation, movement, and responses of water resources in general, and groundwater in particular, to various natural/artificial effects, and to predict the behavior of water resource systems in terms of quantity and quality in response to these effects. This goal is largely achieved through computer model-based education.
Our graduates work in many different sectors as engineers with the brightest profession of the future, seeking solutions to various engineering problems arising from the scarcity/absence or abundance of water, from providing drinking and usable water to dewatering in engineering structures and excavation areas, from meeting agricultural irrigation needs to the sustainability of ecosystems.
The increasing severity of water resource problems has made Hydrogeological Engineering one of the sought-after professions of today and the future, both in our country and in the world.
